The Culinary Forum of Goa general body meeting at Agnel Institute of Food Crafts & Culinary Sciences, Verna, Goa on 18th March 2009

World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), is the global authority on food and is the apex body for all chefs across the world. India was elected and inducted as a member of WACS in 2004, and Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA). The National Apex Body of Chefs has since then showed tremendous growth. The regional associations in the country kept growing from Indian Culinary Forum (ICF) in Delhi, South Indian Culinary Association (SICA) in South India with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka Chapters, Western India Culinary Association (WICA) in Mumbai, East India Culinary Association (EICA) in Kolkata to the recently launched, Culinary Forum of Goa (CFG) in Goa.

Chef Manjit Singh Gill, President of IFCA proudly said “This is an another feather in the cap of IFCA, keeping in mind the diversity of our nation we need representation from all cultures across all cuisines.”

The Culinary Forum of Goa met for a general body meeting at Agnel Institute of Food Crafts & Culinary Sciences, Verna, Goa on 18th March 2009. The meet was attended by chefs from all major hotels in Goa, culinary professors and principals of leading hotel management colleges in Goa and was honored with the presence of Chef P. Soundararajan, General Secretary IFCA.

The event was started with a welcome note by Chef Debraj Bhaumik, President, Culinary Forum of Goa and was followed by a tribute to the late Padmashree Dr. Thangam Philip, founder Principal of IHM, Mumbai. Two of her students, Prof. Raman, Director Culinaria, Ace Culinary Academy, Goa, & Mr. V.A. Keni, Ex. Principal of IHM, Goa were the speakers on the occasion.

Chef Soundararajan spoke about the role of chefs towards development of the fraternity, education and social cause three objectives the forum needed to work on. He shared his experience in various international and national events that had been organised by various Culinary Associations and explained the biennial WACS Congress which is scheduled next at Chile in 2010. IFCA National Congress is the biennial national meet and is scheduled for November this year at Hyderabad. The other events that were spoken about were culinary competitions that enhance the skills of chefs and celebration of International Chef’s Day every year on the 20th October.

This event was partnered by McCain Foods India Pvt. Ltd and Tilda Riceland (P) Ltd. who presented their products to the attending chefs. The vote of thanks was given by Chef Debraj Bhaumik, President, CFG, Chef Ranjit Pandey, Vice President, CFG, Chef Prasad Paul, General Secretary, CFG and Mr. Alphonso Pereira, Director Junior Forum, CFG and presented mementos to Chef Soundararajan, Mr. Abhishek Saran(Tilda) and Mr. Neeraj Walia(Mc Cain) on behalf of the college and the Culinary Forum of Goa.
